Miscommunication
Jan. 4th, 2006 01:57 amI can't believe that they told all those miners' families that their men were alive, and now they are telling them they are all dead (well, one is alive, but critical).
It's pretty stunning. So sad.
I suppose it is a miracle that anyone was alive at all... but talk about a complete about face in circumstance.
EDIT: I didn't update last night, but watched the live interviews with the head of the coal company and the governor of WV... it appears that the whole thing must have been some sort of horrible telephone thing gone wrong, probably a combination of nearly two days under stress and misheard news by cell phone. I don't think anyone is to "blame" for the error, but it is truly tragic that they were cast down twice into grief and loss. I imagine most of them, when the air cools and things are rational again, will be able to see that it wasn't anyone's deliberate act to mislead them... who would profit from a cruelty like that?... but a human error of the times (wouldn't have happened in the days before cell phones).
