I just have to announce that my Unitarian Jihad name is Sister Katana of Compassion. I am ordering my tabbie boots and throwing stars to be overnighted with my plus sized ninja outfit. I could easily be a dragon or a tiger, but it's not likely I'll be doing a lot of crouching or hiding :-p

Under the cut, the goddess reveals her many names... )

You know, up until the last season or two, when it really got out of control and IMO had jumped the shark, I was an avid "Xena" fan. I loved all the characters. I have to admit a soft spot, though, for Ares, played by Kevin Smith. He was gorgeous, mildly evil, but somehow had a hint of being redeemable. So much better than a milktoast hero.

I was doing a Google image search for Bruce Willis this morning, because, well, why not, and discovered that Kevin Smith is dead. Not only that, he has been dead for three years, and died in a horrible accident. How did I miss this? I don't think it was heavilly noted in the press.

At any rate, he was my age, and if for that reason alone it gave me a little clench. Goodbye, Kevin, I didn't even know you were gone. You're still alive and vital in my memory.

I have been following the UK marriage tale; not so much for the players in it, but in another way, as an older person who understands that the love that matters most is the love that endures. So I was very impressed with the offering from the poet laureate, which I felt was fresh, lacked the pomposity of many official poems, and retained the feeling of the heart overcoming adversity. Good job.

Spring Wedding

A poem for the royal wedding by Andrew Motion, Britain's poet laureate:

I took your news outdoors, and strolled a while
In silence on my square of garden-ground
Where I could dim the roar of arguments,
Ignore the scandal-flywheel whirring round,

And hear instead the green fuse in the flower
Ignite, the breeze stretch out a shadow-hand
To ruffle blossom on its sticking points,
The blackbirds sing, and singing take their stand.

I took your news outdoors, and found the Spring
Had honored all its promises to start
Disclosing how the principles of earth
Can make a common purpose with the heart.

The heart which slips and sidles like a stream
Weighed down by winter-wreckage near its source —
But given time, and come the clearing rain,
Breaks loose to revel in its proper course.

This is a follow up on what has been posted in several places here on LJ regarding slaughtering horses and using them for food. From the Lowell, MA newspaper today. There is contact information for a person to contact in protest to the holding up of a bill to prevent horses in the US being killed for meat.
